Item Description

Please note: This specimen is labeled as coming from Marktredwitz, Upper Palatinate, Germany. With that said, Marktredwitz is actually in Bavaria, and I'm not 100% certain of the origin of this specimen. If anybody out there has some info as to where this piece specifically is from, please let us know. With that said, this piece features many good quality, sharp, "dogtooth" habit scalenohedral crystals of Calcite measuring up to 4.1 cm long sitting on a small amount of sedimentary matrix. The majority of the crystals are pristine. While the Calcites themselves are essentially colorless, there is a slight secondary coating of an unknown material giving them a bit of a tan/beige hue on the surface. With a bit of backlighting, you can see that Calcites have decent internal translucency. An odd specimen that would fill a spot in any Calcite completionist's collection, as there are countless thousands of localities for the species around the world. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3728). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
