Item Description
A hard to find display specimen of Calcite from Serifos Island in the Aegean Sea of Greece. This locality is best known for its renowned for Quartz Prasem specimen included with green Actinolite, not Hedenbergite. This piece features a few sharp, well-formed, attractive rhombs of Calcite measuring up to 5.6 cm sitting on matrix. The Calcites show a reddish-brown coating on the surface, but are actually translucent and colorless inside. The piece is showy and three-dimensional, and with the exception of one small contact on the left side of one of the secondary crystals, I can't see any real damage of note. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12004). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
