Item Description
Calcites from Bergen Hill are rare on the market. This part of New Jersey is diabase (not basalt), though similar minerals are found in both environments. This might be the first piece of Calcite that we've ever had to offer from Guttenberg (right across the river from Central Park in New York). The specimen is a sharp, well-formed, translucent, soft golden colored, doubly-terminated scalenohedron with a small amount of matrix attached on the back. The piece is in amazingly good condition all around, both terminations are intact, and I can only see a few minor nicks. If you collect Calcites, US minerals or specifically New Jersey rocks, don't miss out on a chance to pick up a very hard to find representation from this old locale that probably dates back 100 years or so. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1107). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
