Item Description
Most people have not seen a Calcite specimen from this area in person, as they are rarely seen on the market these days. Calcites from near La Junta form in nodules/concretions in Cretaceous-aged Pierre Shale and are cracked open to reveal the beautiful crystals inside. This piece features beautiful, sharp, translucent, soft golden colored rhombohedra of Calcite on matrix. The largest Calcite measures 2.2 cm across, which is good sized for the locality. Very little damage, and nearly every crystal is complete. A really showy and good quality example of these seldom-seen specimens from southeastern Colorado. Priced at $1,500 in the inventory. From the collection of Lee B. Burnett of Morrison, Colorado (#LB201)
