Item Description
Here we have a rarely seen Calcite specimen from the small town of Portland in Fremont County, Colorado. The town is located along State Highway 120, east of Florence. This piece originally came from the well-known geologist, Pete Modreski and was collected in 1983. It's the only Calcite we've ever seen from this locality and would make a great addition to any Calcite suite or a collection of Colorado minerals. This piece features a predominant, sharp, translucent, soft silvery colored compressed rhombohedron, associated with a few accenting smaller Calcites and minor matrix. The piece is in fairly good condition, though it's a bit rough in a few spots, so it's not 100% damage-free. It's still a showy and eye-catching piece from an obscure locality, so don't miss out, as you might not see another one like it on the market. From the collection of Brian Kosnar.
