Item Description

A rarely seen specimen from an undisclosed locality in Meade County, South Dakota. It's not from Elk Creek, as it has a distinctly different habit. The piece features highly compressed light yellow colored rhombohedral crystals measuring up to 2.0 cm across stacked like poker chips or pagodas, not unlike similar specimens we've seen from various mines in Hunan, China. There is no real matrix, as the crystals seems to have formed on a crust of another mineral that dissolved away. The piece is in very good condition, with no major damage that I can see with the naked eye. If you collect worldwide Calcites or unusual locality specimens, don't miss out on this one, as very few of these are seen on the market.
