Item Description
This specimen is labeled as coming from the "Steinbruch Glöckl" = Glöckl Quarry, but I can't find a listing for this locality online, so if anybody out there has some insight as to a more specific locality, please reach out and let us know. With that said, mindat.org does have a listing for the "Glockenpöhl Quarry" in Bösenbrun, so perhaps this is the appropriate locality for this piece. This aesthetic Calcite specimen features a few prominent, lustrous, white, trigonal prismatic crystals measuring up to about 2.2 cm long, flaring off a matrix of smaller Calcites, creating a very showy display piece. I can't see any damage on the front/display side of the specimen, and there is only one small separation mark on the back, but otherwise the piece is in great condition. These are RARE to find on the market, you only see them in older collections, especially because collecting has been prohibited since 2001. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#28 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection for the coming months/years through our various platforms.
