Item Description
An incredibly hard to find specimen of Calcite labeled as replacing Glauberite, but it very well could be after Ikaite - or perhaps after Gaylussite. The label states the locality is the Arctic Ocean off the north coast of Alaska. The given coordinates on the label are 66 Latitude, 166 Longitude, but it should be -166 Longitude, which puts the locality on the south side of the Shishmaref Inlet. I can honestly say that I've never seen a single specimen from this locality, and this particular piece is an attractive cluster of sharp crystals with a whitish-blue color on the surface and a muted reddish-brown hue underneath. Individual crystals measure up to about 2.3 cm, and the piece is complete all around with no real damage I can find, so I'm calling it a complete "floater". A really cool obscure locality specimen!
Ex Les Presmyk / De Natura specimen.
