Item Description

Two impressive pseudo-cubic calcite rhombs dominate this aesthetic and rich mounded small cabinet. The well-placed largest crystal is 2.6 x 2.3 x 2.0 cm. The translucent, highly lustrous crystals have lightly frosted faces and brown sugar color. The calcite rhombs are attached to an earlier generation of banded calcite. Several crystal habits, including nailhead rhombs, come from the uncommon La Junta area of Colorado, where the calcites are cracked open from nodules/concretions in the Cretaceous-aged Pierre Shale. These came out in the late 1980s, with very few since. Ex Marty Zinn Collection. A must for the species or Colorado collector.
