Calcite (rare lavender colored twin) on Calcite

A fine beautiful rarity in the world of Calcite from the Fengjiashan Mine in China. These elusive and dazzling Calcites came from an isolated discovery which produced a hue that is virtually unseen outside of this mine. Add in the fact that the crystals are also twinned, and you have something rare and special for a widespread mineral species. This small cabinet specimen hosts a fine quality, sharp, rather lustrous, gemmy, well-formed twinned crystal of Calcite measuring 3.1 cm across, with a gorgeous soft lavender hue, sitting on a thin slab of matrix coated by an earlier generation of small scalenohedral white Calcites with a small amount of accenting Pyrite. The main Calcite crystal is in superb condition overall, but there is a contact on the left side where it was attached to the pocket wall, but it still present well and I love how the crystal is sitting perfectly atop the specimen. These pieces are incredibly hard to find on the market now, and if you collect Calcites or minerals of China, these are highly sought after for their quality, beauty and that rare color.
