Item Description

VERY RARE and desirable golden-orange botryoidal calcite from the famous U.S Borax Mine. The striking translucent botryoids are composed of a myriad of tiny dogtooth calcite crystals. The piece GLOWS, when backlit! A dramatically sculptural 360-degree specimen. It strongly resembles famous orange botryoidal mimetites from the renowned late 1960s finds at San Pedro Corralitos or recent mimetite finds at Mina Ojuela in Mexico, but it's calcite! Calcite of this style, color and quality is EXTREMELY RARE from Boron. Very choice and rare material from the Jim Minette Collection, who assembled a world-class collection of borates and other species. Jim was an engineer and finally mine manager at Boron. The piece was collected by him in the 1980s. A MUST for the locality or species collector!
