Item Description
Sublime, water-clear gem, colorless, nailhead spar calcite crystals are dramatically festooned, jackstraw-style, on the sculptural large triangular matrix plate. The highly lustrous prism reach about 1.8 cm tall. This very rich and beautiful specimen resembles classic English calcite, but in fact is from Arizona. The Portland Mine is an extinct less well-known intermittently worked open pit gold mine, last worked in 1989 (MINDAT). Old material for collectors, seldom seen! The porphyritic matrix is a telltale feature. It appears to be essentially pristine, but for the acceptable minimal periphery wear. The piece has two fine display views. SELDOM on the market in this quality, richness and SIZE, from this locality.
