Calcite on quartz and amethyst specimens of this outstanding and aesthetic quality from the famous mines at Guanajuato are, indeed, rare. Highly lustrous, translucent, white with gemmy, colorless edges, pseudohexagonal, pokerchip calcite rhombs to 4.4 cm stand dramatically upright on large matrix covered with a very colorful layered beds of quartz, amethyst and sparkly quartz points. The calcites are pristine. This super combination piece dates to prior to 1900, when Bement sold his 12500 piece collection to J.P. Morgan. Orange fluorescence. Ex Bement and American Museum Collections and Herb Obodda dealer stock. Valued at $750, five or more years ago. It is worth more today.
