Item Description
A striking, 2.0 x 1.7 cm, hexagonal, calcite "pagoda" tower dominates this very showy and rare two-sided calcite crystal plate. The large crystal is highly lustrous, included with iron oxides and you can seeing the layering on the top view. The calcites on this side, both nifty scalenohedrons and rhombs are coated with iron oxides. Most of the rhombs on the back are glassy, colorless (fluorescent orange-pink) and are nicely accented with sparkly, micro pyrites. The bit of periphery wear is certainly a modest detraction. The Bob Trimingham label is confusing, as "Herold" refers to an ancient limestone mine near Thum, not Schlema. Most likely the piece is from the nearby Venusberg quarry. The locality confusion is understandable as the piece was acquired in 1989, before the fall of the USSR.
