Item Description

The Black Rock Quarry (Ben Hogan Quarry) is well known for its beautiful pink Dolomite specimens, but it also has produced some attractive Calcites, which are most often seen on Dolomite matrix. I recently picked up a small parcel of Calcites on Sphalerite from Black Rock, collected by a local rockhound. This lovely thumbnail specimen features a couple of sharp, lustrous, translucent, pale golden color scalenohedra of Calcite measuring up to 1.0 cm sitting on a complex black crystal of Sphalerite which is studded by iridescent, golden sharp Chalcopyrite crystals. No major damage to speak of (I can see a tiny bit with a loupe), and it's not common to see Calcites ON Sphalerite from this locality. A great piece for a thumbnail collector, a Calcite collector, or a collector of specimens from Black Rock.
