A true gem calcite, this is literally THE classic Elmwood style, often called "jewels" by the miners! This gorgeous specimen is balanced on just a nice pedestal of sphalerite matrix for contrast, and came out in the heyday of the mine in the 1990s (when I bought it for my own personal calcite collection at the time). It is pristine, balanced in size and shape as well as on a matrix, and displays every quality you could want to have a sophisticated Elmwood calcite in this size. They get bigger, but not much better - there are many larger specimens, in fact, than fine examples in this size, as the mine produced so many huge crystals. Once common, Elmwood calcites are now a historic American classic. Valued $2500-plus.
