Item Description

The famous Stari Trg Mine is the central mine at the big Trepča Complex in Kosovo (formerly Yugoslavia) and has been the source of some great display specimens over the years. Trepča is regarded as one of the great producers of beautiful crystallized sulfides. This is a great display specimen featuring sharp, well-formed, gemmy, colorless, stacked rhombic crystals of Calcite sitting atop notably lustrous, well-formed, jet-black twinned crystals of Sphalerite measuring up to 2.0 cm. No major damage on the top/display side of the piece, but the back is contacted where it was removed from the pocket wall. Really eye-catching in person. Classic material from this prolific locale.
