Calcite on Quartz

Here we have a gorgeous and highly displayable example of these classic specimens from the famous Boldut Mine in Romania. This piece features a beautiful "snowball"-esque group of notably vitreous, cream colored, tightly intergrown crystal groups of Calcite along with additional smaller Calcite crystals sitting atop sharp, gemmy, colorless prismatic Quartz crystal matrix. I love how the central "ball" is so beautifully positioned on the piece. If you look around the periphery you can see how the Calcite grew atop the Quartz crystals, and formed some attractive "capes" on top. No major damage outside of the outer edges where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. Pieces like this are not nearly as common on the market as they were years ago, and now collectors are coming to appreciate them more for their quality and beauty since the mine is now closed.
