Item Description

A fine and showy large combination specimen from a very rare New York locale in St. Lawrence County, near the famous Balmat mines. The sharp, intergrown calcite scalenohedrons are lustrous and translucent, milky-white with light amber terminations and are aesthetically set on a crust covered with small oxide-coated, etched, pyrite crystals. The largest is 6.7 cm. One crystal has a cleaved termination and a bit of periphery wear is noted. The remains excellent and rare material from this obscure locale. Ex. Schlichter Collection.
