Calcite on Fluorite with Marcasite

Sculptural and impressive large two-sided combination rib from this classic Spanish fluorite locale - the Moscona Mine. Two generations of complex scalenohedral calcite crystals dramatically, richly and aesthetically cover one side of the matrix covered with typical for the locale, tiny gemmy golden-yellow fluorite cubes, to 4 mm. Large 2nd generation, lustrous, gemmy/translucent, tan calcites are overgrown on a rich field of smaller, highly glassy, mostly transparent colorless calcite crystals. The striking large calcite is 4.8 cm long. The 1st generation calcites have Marcasite inclusions, a fine and uncommon accessory. Formerly in the Jaume Vilalta Collection. Ex Raul Sanabria Orellana Collection, a well-known Spanish collector and author. He is the co-author of the excellent recent 2024 Mineralogical Record Berbes, Spain article in Vol 55, No 1 and co-author of the 2021 Mineralogical Record article on the Aliva Mining District, Spain Vol. 52, No. 4. Classic and very showy large calcite and fluorite with uncommon marcasite from the noted locale.
