Calcite on Fluorite (RARE combo - fluorescent) Robertson Coll.

Item Description

Wonderful, RARE and very showy fluorite and calcite combination from this famous extinct German fluorite mine. Lustrous, translucent, nailhead spar calcite crystals, to 1.7 cm, are attractively set on the dramatic crystallized face of the classic, translucent green massive fluorite body. Calcite is VERY RARE from the mine. Striking iron oxide-tinted drusy quartz fantastically, preferentially coats the myriad of small fluorite cubes. This surreal face resembles a print from the famed graphic artist, M.C. Escher. Purple and pink fluorescence, as you would expect. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 861 and acquired in the mid to late 1950s. Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). She passed away in 2020. Very rare, perhaps unique, calcite on fluorite with quartz combination from the Cacilia Mine.
