Item Description

This well-known Weardale mine was worked intermittently for lead and mostly fluorite from 1847 until 1989. Tightly intergrown, very glassy and translucent, colorless, flattened calcite rhombs comprise this excellent, rich and showy combination piece. The underlying matrix is massive grayish-greenish-purple fluorite. The rhombs in the dense interior are essentially pristine and the periphery wear is certainly a modest detraction to this fine calcite with classic crystal form from a classic location. Neon orange-pink for the calcite and purple fluorescence for the fluorite. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection.
