Calcite on Fluorite (Daniel Trincillo Sr. Coll.)

Impressive large calcite on fluorite from the famous Xianghualing Mine and the Daniel Trinchillo Sr. Collection. Striking, large, glassy, translucent, flattened nailhead calcite rhombs cover most of the underlying fluorite matrix. The dominating large rhomb is 7.1 cm across. The piece was nicknamed the 'Turtle' by the Trinchillos because it had a Calcite shell and Fluorite body. The beautiful green fluorite cubes, to 2.5 cm, have cloudy phantoms cores and are very glassy/transparent. A fascinating large 360-degree combination. Very nearly pristine, with only one gently bruised edge in the interior. Mass is 1746 grams or 3.8 pounds. The piece was offered in a major auction house sale of Senior's collection in September, 2008, during the major USA economic downturn valued at $2500-3500. Value today is at least twice that. A classic from old finds!
