Calcite on Dolomite (classic material)

Item Description

A wonderful old combo piece from Black Rock, Arkansas (possibly from the Ben Hogan Quarry), featuring fine, soft golden colored scalenohedral crystals of Calcite measuring up to 1.7 cm, sitting atop classic salmon-pink colored, vitreous curved rhombs of Dolomite, typical of the area. Minor Chalcopyrite can be seen frozen inside the Calcites for a nice touch. The Calcites are translucent when backlit, and show slight "phantom" effects internally, as there is a more narrow "dogtooth"-shaped Calcite habit which is visible in the center of some crystals when backlit. No major damage, and quite showy of this now seldom-seen material.
