Calcite on Chalcopyrite (Hefendehl Coll.)

Rarely do we see combination specimens like this from China, or anywhere else for that matter. This is a fairly unique piece displaying reniform Calcite perched on brilliant, sharp crystals of Chalcopyrite. The Calcite spherules are a satin lustered, translucent white ranging from 3 mm to 1.5 cm across and grace the top of an elongate cluster of metallic yellow chalcopyrites averaging 2 cm on edge with bright luster. The piece is in excellent condition with only minor contacting on the back and front and then on the bottom. A handsome small cabinet piece with a rare association. This is an old find, often misattributed to Yaogangxian as the market town for minerals was in Hunan at the time, although it is certainly from Jiangxi.
