Spectacular large and rare style 360-degree calcite from an unknown mine in Daye County, Hubei, China. Striking, large, sharp, 1st generation, glassy, translucent scalenohedrons are included with hematite and have stunning, colorful, coatings of multi-hued hematite. The dramatic, large, colorful, scalenohedron is 12.4 cm tall. Rich, preferential 2nd generation calcite overgrowths of densely intergrown, glassy, highly lustrous, stepped-growth, rhombohedrons, some with hematite tinting are a fantastic, contrasting complement. The 2nd growth calcites resemble stepped-growth calcites from the fabled Tsumeb Mine. A few gently bruised calcite spike tips and the noted periphery wear are certainly acceptable in the context of this large specimen and have minimal impact to the overall quality of this remarkable piece.
