Calcite on Calcite stalactite

Item Description

A stalactite spire coated in small, glistening Calcite crystals is topped with a tightly intergrown pair of larger Calcite crystals right at the summit. A four inch stalactite pinnacle along with a few subordinate offshoots are completely covered by a first generation of glistening, colorless, very lustrous, 2 mm Calcite crystals which, in turn, hosts a pair of translucent to transparent, tan colored Calcite crystals to one inch in maximum dimension almost at the crest of the piece. This is a very sculptural and aesthetic piece from a 2013 pocket in Mexico. So many of these had damage, or were just not fully covered with the calcite layer - this is a particularly dramatic and good example!
