Item Description

Tsumeb is renowned for calcite diversity and quality and this dramatic large combination is certainly one of the most unusual and exotic you will see. A striking and sculptural, translucent 2-sided "frill" of two generations of calcite rests on a crust of dolomite pseudomorphs after flattened calcite disks. The front of the calcite "frill" looks incredibly carved (more pseudomorphs?) and you can see a few scattered latter generation glassy, tan calcite rhombs. The back of the frill is decidedly different, as it is 100% glassy calcite rhombs! Most of the dolomite crust here is also covered with these calcites. Complete all-around and in great shape. The left side of carved face of the frill has periphery wear, otherwise the piece is essentially pristine. Truly a surreal and excellent calcite combination from this famed locale. From an East Coast collection and comes with a Zweibel Mineral Kingdom of Woodmere label dating from 1973-1780. Value of such an exotic and rare style combination calcite??
