Item Description

Rare, showy and colorful 2-generation calcite from this ancient polymetallic mining district. Nifty bladed botryoids of cream-colored manganoan calcite are richly and preferentially set on one side of the first generation of densely intergrown, hematite-tinted calcite scalenohedrons. The preferentially tinted orange botryoids are a super accent to this highly unusual 2-generation calcite. The piece was originally purchased as rhodochrosite on calcite, but MINDAT does not list rhodochrosite for the locale. Ex W.S. Logan Collection # 42-3 and illustrated on Page 130 of his 2013 self-published book, Rhodochrosite - Crystals of Drama and Nuance (available by request). Rare style calcite from Hungary.
