Item Description

A remarkable and very rare calcite on calcite specimen from this well-known South Africa gold mine, where specimens of ANY species are rare. An exceptional, water-clear, trigonal, gem, calcite rhomb has three, striking, stepped-growth, second generation rhombs preferentially attached to the edges of the large rhomb. The matrix on the back is coated with tiny dogtooth calcites peppered with pyrite cubes. The large calcite is very nearly pristine, with only the most trivial of edge wear and the upper second generation rhomb has a cleaved corner. This remains a probably unique and outstanding calcite from this locale. Value??? MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!!!
