Calcite on Amethyst (Jaime Bird Coll.)

Item Description

A dramatic CABINET calcite plate from the famous mines at Guanajuato. A striking, 6.5 cm, trident-shaped, calcite crystal is the well-placed, focal point of the translucent and lustrous, ivory-colored, calcite scalenohedrons. The matrix of amethyst and quartz is diagnostic of Guanajuato calcite speicmens. The light cleave on the primary crystal termination is a modest detraction. But overall this is a very showy, large specimen from this historic locale. Ex Jaime Bird Collection.
