Item Description

The well-known Stank Mine (iron ore) produced some very fine calcite specimens, while it was active from 1871-1901. This is an aesthetic, stacked cluster of glassy, transparent to translucent, scalenohedrons of markedly different sizes. Many of the larger crystals (to 2.7 cm) are doubly terminated and have a bit of hematite tinting. A very nifty, 360-degree piece, with only one contact at the base and very trivial bruising. Ex E.R. Chadbourne Collection (prominent New England collector) and Herb Obodda dealer stock. The old label dates to prior to 1904.
