Water-clear, very glassy, sharply terminated, calcite scalenohedrons richly and strikingly cover the thin gossan matrix plate on this outstanding old-timer from the famous iron mines at Egremont. The largest crystal is 3.2 cm and is doubly terminated. Several of the calcites are included with pyrolusite, which really adds character to this excellent piece. For the overall richness of this piece, damage is indeed modest and is certainly not detracting, with one cleaved crystal and trivial edge, termination and periphery wear. Classic, very fine material from this historic locale. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. Howard started as a mineral dealer at age 13 in 1972, became a sophisticated dealer and died tragically at age 28 in 1987. His collection recently became available to us through his family.
