Calcite (old classic)

Classic, glassy, sharply terminated calcite scalenohedrons are festooned on this very rich and excellent old-time plate from the famous Bigrigg Mine. The crystals reach 2.3 cm and some are lightly hematite tinted, adding contrast. This sculptural and aesthetic 360-degree plate is nearly pristine, for all the crystal density. Only one broken crystal is noted in the interior. Specimens of this quality came out in the 1800s. Valued at $750 by the former dealer and worth it.
