Calcite (Multiple generations, fluorescent) - rare old locale

Item Description

The elongated, hexagonal prisms that compose this larger-sized, small cabinet specimen are well-formed nail-head Calcites. Scalenohedral Calcites are more common for Scotland's New Glencrieff Mine, a classic old Pb-Zn-Baryte mine, but the unusual hexagonal habit is but one of several interesting characteristics of these crystals. For starters, there are multiple generations here. Some Calcites are scalenohedrons preferentially dusted with Marcasite to create subtle phantoms, and then overgrown by the lustrous, gemmy to translucent hexagonals. In other cases, is crystals are Calcites followed by clay followed by small, gemmy Calcites all overgrown by the final generation. The luster is good, the longest crystal is a substantial 3 cm, and all the Calcites have a blazing orange fluorescence. This is a choice, interesting, and aesthetic Calcite.
