Item Description

A beautiful and showy three-dimensional group of attractive "dogtooth"-shaped scalenohedral crystals of Calcite from Santa Eulalia. The crystals show multi-generational growth featuring a darker grey interior (which are overgrowing a previous generation of Calcite) and are partially overgrown by a latter generation of slightly translucent, white/colorless, lustrous Calcite on the exterior faces. The underside of the piece is actually a stark white hue, and has more of a "poker chip" style habit. The specimen is nearly a complete "floater" as it's crystallized all around, with only a slight point of contact near the base where it was separated from the pocket wall. I love how the piece sits beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. A wonderful example of this older material dating back to the 1960s-1970s. Priced at $850 in the inventory.
