Calcite (Manganocalcite?) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

An oddball specimen, labeled as "Manganocalcite" from Franklin, NJ, but this pink varietal of Calcite is not reported from Franklin in any database I can find. I'm actually not 100% certain that it's Calcite, but I'm going with the label that matches the number on the back of the specimen. Sharp crystals measuring up to 8 mm across with good luster and a strange reddish hue can be seen associated with green Datolite(?). There's a good chance that this piece isn't from Franklin, but rather a trap rock locality in New Jersey. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9256). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
