Item Description

A beautiful crystallized "ball" of pink manganese-bearing Calcite from the famous N'Chwaning II Mine in South Africa. The beautiful color along with rare style/morphology make for a lovely presentation. The piece is composed of hundreds of tiny intergrown trigonal crystals, tightly packed together to form the spherical shape. The piece shows a rich red fluorescence under UV light as well. The front/display side of the piece is in excellent condition, but there is a contact point on the back where the Calcite grew against the pocket wall. It still displays well from the front, so you don't see the contacted area. These Calcites spheroids were RARE from the N'Chwaning II Mine, and this piece is one of the largest individual "balls" that we've seen. If you collect Calcites or minerals of South Africa, don't miss out on this attractive and hard to find example from this famous locale.
