Item Description

A fantastic cabinet sized display piece of these soon-to-be classics from Dongpo Ore Field in China. This is a notably striking and highly aesthetic specimen featuring sharp, distinct, compressed, trigonal crystals of beautiful light-pink colored manganese-bearing Calcite, forming gorgeous "pagoda"-shaped groups, which are overgrowing a previous generation of "dogtooth" habit scalenohedral Calcites underneath creating a very attractive specimen. The largest group of Calcites measures 6.9 cm long. Both sides of the specimen present a unique viewing perspective, and I honestly have a hard time choosing which side I like better. The piece is in very fine condition, the only roughness I can find is around the base where the piece was separated from the pocket wall. A truly impressive and wonderfully fine example of these great contemporary Chinese classics showing superb form and aesthetics. The piece also shows excellent orange fluorescence under UV light. Priced at $3,500 in the inventory. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#529 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
