Calcite (iron-included)

Item Description

An attractive and classic Calcite specimen featuring a very sharp, lustrous, well-formed scalenohedral crystal which is iron-coated / included, giving it a dark brownish red color on the surface. The main Calcite crystal is overgrown by a second generation of lustrous, gemmy Calcite crystals, which are nearly colorless, but show reddish reflections internally when backlit. Speaking of which, the main Calcite glows with an intense fiery red hue in areas when backlit, creating a rather pleasing effect. Very good condition all the way around, save a tiny nick on the termination, and it's contacted on the base where it was removed from the pocket wall. These were more abundant on the market many years ago, and they seem to be all but gone.
