Calcite (iron-bearing) (rare triangular habit)

Item Description

These gorgeous Calcites from the Fengjiashan Mine are some of the most recognized and beloved examples of the species from anywhere in China. They have been coming out for the better part of 20 years, but they still are as impressive as when they first hit the market. This small cabinet specimen featuring a predominant sharp, lustrous, gemmy, highly compressed scalenohedral crystal of translucent colorless Calcite sitting atop a mound of dozens of smaller accenting Calcites of equal quality included with reddish-brown iron oxide to create a beautiful two-tone effect. The notably unusual triangular habit of these highly compressed crystals is the main focus of the specimen, and this particular style is rare not only from China, but in Calcite in general. The main Calcite measures 2.6 cm across, but I can see a tiny corner on one of the tips is cleaved. The piece has wonderful balance and quality but was a bit hard to photograph due to it's three-dimensional nature. Valued at $850 for the quality and color of the crystals along with the wonderful form and aesthetics of the overall specimen.
