Item Description

Here we have a gorgeous full cabinet sized display specimen of the beautiful classic Calcites from the Leiping Mine in China. The piece is filled with sharp, lustrous, well-formed, gemmy/translucent, robust trigonal crystals of Calcite measuring up to 2.8 cm across which have a slight "smoky" hue, that is wonderfully contrasted against selective inclusions of earthy red colored Hematite. The reverse side of the specimen has more of a white/colorless hue to the Calcites, with virtually no Hematite inclusions to be seen. A really showy piece with only minimal damage (the only significant damage is around the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket, and is quite forgivable). A very worthwhile and showy specimen for a collector of this specific material or general Calcites, or just Chinese minerals. Valued in the inventory at $4,500. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#200 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
