Calcite incl. w/ Hematite ex Obodda

Item Description

A very sculptural and showy, large, two-sided calcite rib from this ancient iron mine abandoned in 1963. Bright, rust-red, included hematite adds much color and character to the striking front of the upright piece composed of stacked clusters of lustrous, translucent, very flattened, nailhead, calcite rhombs. Interestingly, the calcite crystal clusters on the back and both edges have very little hematite. Unusual depositional chemistry here. Very uncommon in this form and quality.
