Item Description

RARE and showy combination material from volcanics in this most obscure area near famed Idar-Oberstein. Sharp, lustrous, translucent, iron oxide-tinted dogtooth calcite crystals, to 2.4 cm, are aesthetically clustered jackstraw fashion in a partial geode lined with sparkly drusy quartz and tiny dogtooth calcite crystals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4347 and acquired in the mid-1960s. It comes with a label from Anton Berger, a prominent Austrian dealer whose label dates from about 1929 to the 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). RARE and excellent calcite and quartz from this locale.
