Item Description
Beautiful amber, sharp, gemmy, dogtooth calcite crystals, to 1.7 cm, line the interior of this well-preserved symmetrical fossilized mollusc from this well-known Florida locale. The hole on one side and the bit of attached reef rock matrix add character. The mollusc species is Mercenaria permagna and is from the Pleistocene Epoch (1.8 MY - 10,000 year BP). Ghostly white calcite fluorescence. Ex Rock Currier Collection No. 7246. Not many fine crystallized specimens come from Florida, and these are certainly distinctive and fun for collectors. This particularly fine piece was kept in the famous Currier collection and is quite nice, valued $1000-1250.
