Item Description
This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew within the two open chambers of a fossil clam that lived approximately two million years ago. The interior of the clam is filled with large, gemmy, golden-yellow Calcite crystals to 2 cm, almost like a fossil geode. Ruck's Pit was a small cement quarry that produced some amazing crystal lined fossils in the early 2000s when it was being mined. The quarry has been closed and filled with water and these fossils are no longer available, so far as we know, except from old stashes. These remarkable crystal filled fossil shells are now difficult to find on the market these days. Florida hasn't produced many notable mineral specimens and these are pretty spectacular. These are also unique in the world and as a bonus, fluoresce beautifully.
