Item Description

This is about the finest calcite in chalcedony-lined geode I have seen from the famous Sierra del Gallego area of Chihuahua. This area has produced 10's of thousands of geodes over the years and I have seen thousands. A 3.0 cm, water-clear, flattened calcite rhomb with exquisite stepped-growth on the edge faces (with a smaller crystal behind it) is aesthetically set in the bottom of the geode lined with sparkly chalcedony. Much of the chalcedony is covered with smaller calcite rhombs, that are nearly impossible to see, due to their transparency. The edge of the sawed geode has been sprayed with krylon to heighten the luster (standard for these geodes). Superb material for the species and locale. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. Howard started as a mineral dealer at age 13 in 1972, became a sophisticated dealer and died tragically at age 28 in 1987. His collection recently became available to us through his family.
