Item Description
This is a HUGE, impressive crystal from 1980s finds at this classic locale! It is a well formed, doubly-terminated, and sharply twinned calcite specimen. It exhibits textbook scalenohedral form and is glassy, gemmy and colorless so that you can see through it in parts. It is clearly one of the largest, most amazing, complete calcite twins I have seen from this deposit - and definitely one of the most beautiful for size. As a bonus, note the interesting rainbow effect internally to one tip. The mass is nearly 2 kilos (about 4.5 pounds weight!). To get something this big in such condition was even more of an extreme rarity back in the 1980s. This large, impressive piece was in the collection of Dr Ed David, former Presidential Science Advisor in the Nixon White House. Then it was in my own personal collection of calcite, after an exchange with Ed circa 2002 or thereabouts, for many years. It LOOKS like a miniature from the photo, for the sheer symmetry and perfection. But it is a full, hefty cabinet piece. Valued $4500-5000
