Item Description

This GIANT, doubly-terminated, gorgeous amber-colored cluster weighs 9.3 pounds. It is a BIG example of this habityou would see the photo and expect it to be a small cab, I think. There are so many sharp, stepped terminations here, it is just amazing to think it grew so shapely instead of in total chaos. The piece tapers to the bottom, nicely. It is wider atop, making it top-heavy (a base is needed for good display) but also more impressive as it makes the eye focus on the top, and makes the piece seem bigger still. As you might expect with such an exposed specimen, there is some damage, but mostly trivial corner dings and a few cleaves visible only from the rear view...in context to the size and display quality from the front, and a good price, not something that bothers me overmuch. The back is otherwise nearly complete, showing some contact to sphalerite and dolomite matrix in its lower portions. The mine is now closed, and further mining, either specimen or commercial for zinc, seems uneconomical. This was found in the early days of the late 70s or early 80s, and was long in the Elmwood collection of dealers Consie and Dalton Prince of Houston, Texas. While not quite pristine, it is still mostly complete and extremely impressive and 3-dimensional; so it displays like a million bucks and is very impactful in person
