Item Description

A beautiful old-time specimen of Calcite from the famous Glückauf (Good Luck) Shaft in the Himmelsfürst Mine in Freiberg. Calcite specimens from the Himmelsfürst Mine are incredibly difficult to find on the market, and they are highly sought after by collectors. This piece features attractive, very sharp, rather lustrous, compressed scalenohedral crystals of white / colorless Calcite - with the largest group measuring 4.1 cm across. The crystals show a fantastic, "stepped" scalloped appearance along the edges giving them depth and a three-dimensional quality rarely seen for this material. Very good quality, minimal damage and a gorgeous large miniature / small cabinet for any Calcite fan or a collector of German / European classics. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#922) with a beautiful old hand-written German label, and a classic label from Scott Williams. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
